Recently I had a birthday! 32, woohoo.
It’s a little different today than any birthday I’ve had in the past 10 years. It was the first time since 2004 that I have not been in a classroom, in Fresno, and the first time I’ve been a dad!
On a more somber note, on June 10th 2015 I was in a car accident that totaled our Rav4. I was coming back from a trip to San Jose for the new job. Near Hollister, there was a flashing red signal at Rd’s 156 and 25. Due to the fact this is an open case/hasn’t settled I won’t explain the rest but suddenly was hit on my right side. I remember being rolled and seeing the ground through the windshield as outside sounds suddenly got louder and Switchfoot playing on the radio got quieter. Then I was right-side up again facing the opposite direction of traffic. As I checked to make sure everything was still working I knew better than to try to get out of the car through the airbags that were everywhere and the broken windshield. Within a few moments people were there, helping me out and pretty soon I went to the hospital in an ambulance (calling Meagan on the way) for a CT scan that cleared me.
I’m happy to report that aside from physical therapy that will hopefully clear up some lingering back and neck pain, I’m fine. The car has been replaced (We got a mini-van thinking ahead!). I still started at OpenEd on June 22nd.
The CHP report had 2 out of 3 witnesses corroborate my view that the other driver ran the flashing red light. According to witnesses, the car flipped at least twice as it changed direction (probably went end over end). I thank God every day that Meagan and Madelyn were not with me, that I was relatively unhurt (so was the other driver). I’ve certainly been more mindful of life, quality time spent with family and friends, and am working on getting a will and all that sort of thing too!
